VJ001 Volcanoes and The Three States of Matter

SKU: VJ001

First of three lessons which together will explore volcanoes, the igneous rocks they produce and link these ideas to the Creation account in Genesis 1 and the Flood description in Genesis 7.
This first lesson looks at what volcanoes do to rock; introducing the idea that solid rock is melted and turned into a liquid. The three states of matter are explored, together with the key words to describe each change of state. (These ideas are key to the understanding of how igneous rocks form - covered in VJ003.)
The lesson links to the national curriculum KS2 Materials work, but goes further and considers how the arrangement of the particles in solids, liquids and gases is different and how temperature controls the state a substance is in.
